Drama Blood Brothers English Literature Paper 2a: Modern Texts The main focus will be on understanding the play and the context in which it is set. Students will analyse each scene closely, examine Russell’s language and his techniques of plot and character creation. AO1: Read, understand and respond to texts. AO2: Analyse the language, form and structure used by a writer to create meanings and effects, using relevant subject terminology where appropriate. AO3: Show understanding of the relationships between texts and the contexts in which they were written. AO4: Use a range of vocabulary and sentence structures for clarity, purpose and effect, with accurate spelling and punctuation. Assessment: Presentation of a character or theme from the text.

Language Paper 1 Fiction and Imaginative Writing Students will be exposed to a range of 19th century fiction texts from a range of different contexts. They will focus on developing their skills in creative writing and will be given opportunities to explore how writers establish setting, develop character and construct a successful plot. AO1: Read, understand and respond to texts. AO2: Analyse the language, form and structure used by a writer to create meanings and effects, using relevant subject terminology where appropriate. AO3: Show understanding of the relationships between texts and the contexts in which they were written. AO4: Use a range of vocabulary and sentence structures for clarity, purpose and effect, with accurate spelling and punctuation. AO5: Communicate clearly, effectively and imaginatively, selecting and adapting tone, style and register for different forms, purposes and audiences. Poetry Conflict Power and Conflict English Literature Paper 2 b & C: Poetry Students will learn how 15 poems from the ‘Conflict’ section are structured and how meaning shaped. They will learn how to select a variety of points, ranging from structural features to linguistic choices. AO1: Read, understand and respond to texts. AO2: Analyse the language, form and structure used by a writer to create meanings and effects, using relevant subject terminology where appropriate. AO3: Show understanding of the relationships between texts and the contexts in which they were written. Assessment: Comparative essay of a given poem with a second poem from the poetry anthology. |
Language Paper 2 Non-Fiction and Transactional Writing Students will explore a range of non-fiction texts written in the 19th, 20th and 21st century and will focus on comparing and making links between them. They will focus on how the writers’ use language and structure to convey their ideas and evaluate the impact and effect of it. Students will focus on developing their skills in writing their own non-fiction texts. These will include letters, speeches, reports, articles, blogs, etc. They will explore the key features of each genre and be taught how to adapt their writing for different audiences and purposes. AO1: Read, understand and respond to texts. AO2: Analyse the language, form and structure used by a writer to create meanings and effects, using relevant subject terminology where appropriate. AO3: Show understanding of the relationships between texts and the contexts in which they were written. Prose 19th Century Fiction: Jekyll and Hyde ENGLISH LITERATURE PAPER 1B: 19TH CENTURY NOVEL The main focus will be on understanding the novella. Students will analyse each scene closely, examine Stevenson’s language and his techniques of plot and character development. AO1: Read, understand and respond to texts. AO2: Analyse the language, form and structure used by a writer to create meanings and effects, using relevant subject terminology where appropriate. AO3: Show understanding of the relationships between texts and the contexts in which they were written. Assessment: Presentation of a character or theme from the text. Students have to compare presentation of the character or theme in an extract compared to the wider text.

Shakespeare Macbeth ENGLISH LITERATURE PAPER 1A: SHAKESPEARE The main focus will be on understanding the text, with detailed attention to Shakespeare's language, imagery, and rhetoric, alongside the play's themes and dramatic construction/ context. AO1: Read, understand and respond to texts. AO2: Analyse the language, form and structure used by a writer to create meanings and effects, using relevant subject terminology where appropriate. AO3: Show understanding of the relationships between texts and the contexts in which they were written. AO4: Use a range of vocabulary and sentence structures for clarity, purpose and effect, with accurate spelling and punctuation. Assessment: Presentation of a character or theme from the text. Language Paper 2 Non-Fiction and Transactional Writing Students will be given one 20th century text and one 21st century text that have a similar theme. They will need to deconstruct the texts and find similarities/differences. Students will also create their own piece of transactional writing.
