Curriculum Statement

We recognise that pupils may present a wide range of emotional, social, and educational needs that can affect progress. We are determined to remove barriers and provide the most inclusive education possible.

Our curriculum delivers high‑quality provision enriched with activities that broaden cultural capital, prepare pupils for adulthood, and lead to GCSEs or equivalent qualifications that underpin secure progression and career pathways. Flexible delivery enables personalised programmes that stretch and challenge each pupil to the highest standards, fostering achievement and confidence.

Enrichment supplements core subjects to promote re‑engagement, enthusiasm, and enjoyment of learning. Alongside core GCSEs, we strengthen essential skills through Functional English, Mathematics, and ICT, and offer a suite of Laser qualifications from Entry Level 3 to Level 2.

Literacy is a priority. Daily reading, spelling, and phonics sessions in KS3 and KS4 develop a love of reading, improve accuracy and fluency, and increase reading ages so pupils are better prepared for end‑of‑Year‑11 examinations.

Short‑Term Placements and Reintegration The majority of MMAP placements are short‑term (up to 12 weeks). We prioritise a successful reintegration to mainstream through:

  • A detailed Pupil Profile summarising progress, areas for development, and successes.
  • Pastoral Support Manager involvement at the start of reintegration.
  • A 12‑week record of SEBDA assessment.
  • Copies of all assessments.
  • Monitoring meetings every five weeks with the pupil, parent/carer, and home school to review next steps.

Key Stage 3 Provision

Our KS3 offer is a 12‑week nurture programme with supported reintegration to mainstream. While we deliver foundational concepts in English, Science, and Mathematics, the principal focus is on nurture, mental wellbeing, resilience, and personal development. PSHE, Humanities, ICT and Careers are also timetabled weekly to support holistic growth.

Key Stage 4 Provision

Pupils referred to MMAP at KS4 often have significantly disrupted learning histories but are not less academically able. Our smaller, supportive setting provides a fresh start with a clear focus on:

  • Improving attendance.
  • Engaging pupils in Education
  • Developing positive supportive relationships
  • Progress from individual baselines.
  • Attainment in English and Mathematics and Biology.
  • Identifying and securing strong post‑16 progression routes that sustain participation in education, employment, or training.

We offer short‑term 12‑week placements for Year 10 and full‑time placements for Year 11. Qualifications include:

  • GCSEs: English Language, Mathematics, Biology, and Art.
  • Vocational/Technical: BTEC Level 1/2 Award in Construction; BTEC Tech Award Level 1/2 in Information Technology; NCFE Level 1/2 in Health & Fitness, NCFE Hair Design from EL3 to L2.

Personal and social development is further strengthened through PSHE, Careers, and Wellbeing.

Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) Every pupil accesses a coherent careers programme that includes:

  • Work experience opportunities aligned to interests and aspirations.
  • Work experience placement opportunities through KS3 and KS4.
  • Engaging, informative careers lessons throughout the year.
  • Individual support to identify the most suitable post‑16 progression route.
  • Onsite careers guidance for parents and students available all day.
