Maidstone and Malling Alternative Provision is a pupil referral unit which takes pupils who will have been identified as being at risk of permanent exclusion or may have been permanently excluded.
The provision supports 42 pupils. Classes are very small, between four and eight pupils and these are supported by a teaching assistant.
All pupils may or may not have additional learning needs. The primary special educational needs for which pupils are referred to MMAP are social, emotional and mental health needs which are impacting on their ability to learn and are adversely affecting their behaviour.
Some pupils are undergoing statutory assessment and when completed these pupils will transfer to specialist provisions.
